A patch release of the Chrome web browser 87.0.4280.141 is available, which fixes 16 vulnerabilities. 12 problems are flagged as dangerous. No critical problems have been identified that allow bypassing all levels of browser protection and executing code on the system outside the sandbox environment.
The update is notable for the significant increase in cash rewards for identifying vulnerabilities. For the discovery of vulnerabilities for the current release, Google has paid 13 awards worth $ 111,000 (three $ 20,000 awards, two $ 15,000 awards, two $ 7500 awards, and one $ 6000 premium). The amount of 5 awards has not yet been determined. The largest rewards were paid for the discovery of use-after-free vulnerabilities in the code related to autocomplete fields, drag & drop, and multimedia data processing. A $ 15,000 bounty was awarded for use-after-free vulnerabilities in the payment API and SafeBrowsing mode.
Stable Channel Update for Desktop on Wednesday, January 6, 2021
The Stable channel has been updated to 87.0.4280.141 for Windows, Mac and Linux which will roll out over the coming days/weeks.
