Apple is testing two prototypes of folding iPhones at once

Samsung, Huawei, and other smartphone makers have been releasing their foldable smartphone variants for two years now. Galaxy Z Fold 2 can be considered one of the most advanced at the moment. But all folding smartphones are still not very relevant for most users: the screen strength is much lower than that of conventional smartphones; there is a fold in the middle, but the main drawback, of course, is still the price.

The Economic Daily News reported that Apple is also testing two prototype foldable iPhones at once. The first model has two separate screens that are connected by a hinge. In June 2020, John Prosser shared similar news and stated that when the smartphone is unfolded, the seam between the screens is almost invisible.

The second prototype foldable iPhone has a clamshell design similar to the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip and Lenovo Moto RAZR. Unlike the previous variant, this clamshell iPhone prototype will have a flexible OLED display from Samsung.

Companies often test a variety of device prototypes, but most of them don't reach end-users. Apple will likely wait for foldable screens to reach higher quality standards.
