The Geekbench database revealed the performance test results of the six-core Intel Core i5-11400 processor of the new Rocket Lake-S family.
Intel has confirmed that the 11th generation chips will hit stores in the first quarter of this year. However, the manufacturer has not yet announced the exact date of the start of sales. Meanwhile, new leaks related to these processors continue to appear on the Web.
According to Geekbench, the Intel Core i5-11400 is a six-core and twelve-thread processor with a base frequency of 2.6 GHz. In automatic overclocking mode, it can be increased to 4.4 GHz across all cores. The processor scored 1247 and 6197 points in the single-core and multi-core performance test.
It is highly likely that one of the preliminary engineering samples participated in the test, which may explain such poor performance numbers. The expected novelty from Intel in the same test did not even catch up with the 8th generation Core i7-8700K Coffee Lake model. At the same time, the Intel Core i5-11400 turned out to be on average 9% faster than its predecessor, the Core i5-10400, despite the 300 MHz lower base frequency and 100 MHz Boost frequency. As for the direct competitor in the face of AMD Ryzen 5 5600X on the Zen 3 architecture, in the single-core and multi-core tests of Geekbench, the new Intel product was 23% slower.
Recall that the new Rocket Lake-S chips are built on the 14nm Cypress Cove architecture. They will be able to work with motherboards based on Z490 and H470 chipsets. In addition, during the last CES exhibition, Intel revealed the specifications of the series of 500-series chipsets, the main feature of which was full support for the PCIe 4.0 interface for a video card and storage, implemented through a CPU. Many manufacturers have already introduced new motherboards based on this system logics. They will appear on sale earlier than the Rocket Lake-S processors themselves, which are not expected until March.
