The owner of a rare working sample of Apple computer 1 put it up for auction on eBay. He wants to raise $ 1.5 million for the device. It is one of six known work computers.
The seller said that the PC is registered on the Apple 1 Ownership List at number 79 with the name "Canadian". It states that it is owned by Krishna B. Blake. He bought the device in 1978 when he owned a computer store that serviced Apple appliances.
According to the description, the sold sample comes with a Byte Shop KOA case, a power supply, a rare Datanetics Version D keyboard, and a Sony TV-115 monitor that was current at that time. The seller claims that the device board has not undergone any changes and is "almost in perfect" condition. It is also reported that the device has been tested by Apple 1 specialist Corey Cohen, who is hired to evaluate lots at major auctions.
A total of 200 Apple computers 1 were made, each hand-assembled by co-founder Steve Wozniak in 1976. It sold for $ 666.66 excluding the power supply, monitor, and keyboard.
Apparently, Blake is not the first time trying to sell his device. A similar announcement appeared on eBay in October 2019, but then he asked for $ 1.75 million for it. Both amounts represent an unprecedented price tag for a device. The most expensive copy of Apple 1 was sold in 2014 for $ 905 thousand, and at later auctions, the price did not exceed $ 500 thousand.
