As long as the skill is deep, there is no DIY that can't be done.
A few days ago, the foreign Up master VIK-on shared the latest results. He doubled the memory capacity of an RTX 2070 graphics card to 16GB.
Before, the RTX 2070 in his hand was 8GB GDDR6, and the particles came from Micron. On the disassembled PCB, 8 single-capacity 8Gb (1GB) chips were only arranged around the GPU. In order to upgrade, VIK-on bought 16Gb Samsung GDDR6 video memory from a Russian merchant on AliExpress, which is almighty. Eight of them are 16GB, which costs 15,000 rubles (about 1,313 yuan).
Of course, buying chips is relatively easy. The difficulty lies in removing old chips and soldering new ones. Fortunately, VIK-on is bold and cautious in this regard.
After soldering, some jumpers are needed to ensure that the new video memory is recognized and the boot is normal. The final result is happy, and it can be turned on normally after power-on, and GPU-Z is showing up. Note that the Up master has not modified the graphics card BIOS.
What's a little surprising is that the 3DMark TimeSpy score is 30% lower than the original 8GB version, and Furmark also crashed.
