According to the statements of his sister, Melissa D'Amico, and her former agent, Patrick Baca, D'Amico died of bronchial pneumonia at his home in Oxfordshire, England.
“Not only have I lost my beautiful brother, but the world has lost an incredibly talented actor and director. Words cannot express how much I miss him, ”his sister said in a post via Twitter.
Born in Germany but raised in the United Kingdom, D'Amico had a bumpy stage career in London, where he played Louis in Tony Kushner's 1992 production of Angels in America, which earned him an Olivier Award nomination as Best Actor.
D'Amico made his Los Angeles debut in the West End in 1977, in the title role of 'Oliver!'. He also participated in 'Julius Caesar' at the Young Vic Theater, 'The Boys Next Door' at the Comedy Theater and in 'The Lisbon Traviata' at the King's Head Theater, all in London. By 2004, she joined the British cast of 'Mamma Mia!'.
The star also has a one-off Broadway credit, wherein in 1994 she starred alongside Philip Bosco and Rosemary Harris in "An Inspector Calls," a play by JB Priestley, directed by Stephen Daldry.
On the other hand, D'Amico's career also included participation in 'Superman II' in the eighties, as well as other titles for television: 'The Alienist: Angel of Darkness', 'Jeeves and Wooster', 'The Bill', 'Trainer' and 'SWALK'. The actor even had a recurring role on 'Family Affairs'.
